Re: Leap Frog Game
Idea of giving a captain veto power is pretty neat. Why not restart this game (assuming evryone is ok with Black resigning here)

Re: Leap Frog Game
If everyone agrees we can certainly give it a try. Give me until the deadline tonight to work out the details and if there's no objections I'll make the change.

Re: Leap Frog Game
And I appreciate you getting your move in on time... but for now we are considering a rule change and you may have to wait a little longer to actually get a move in.

Re: Leap Frog Game
I'm am now going to put this game on hold.

I'll put it up for a vote to which why you'd like to handle this.

1) We can restart the game from the beginning with the new rules added.

2) We can go back to right before Kingsfull's mistake and start from there with the new rules added.

3) We can continue this game as is until Wiz shows up to resign it.

All players get a vote and the majority will rule.

I'll keep the game on hold for 2 days or until there is a majority reached.

New rule being considered, (just so you don't have to scroll down to find it:)

Maybe something like letting the captains reject up to 5 moves per game. Then when somebody make a big error the captain of the team can step in and refuse the move. The player will then have to play a different move. The captain should not tell the player which move to make but can explain to the player why his previous move was rejected.

Also there is a change from 24 hours to 48 hours for the period to make your move.

I'm not against the rule change for veto power. I'm just curious how it works. If I would blunder, and grevillea immediately make a move exploiting my blunder, could my Captain still use the veto? Is there no veto on a Captain's move?

I like the 48 hour rule as well. Most players are going to move well in advance if they know it is their turn. The 48 hour rule would be helpful incase logging into Caissa on a certain day is not possible.

Teams could also be punished for missed moves. A team warning/lost turn at first but then escalating into losing material.

Gramps didn't get a chance to move in this game before the suspension. Maybe 3 moves per turn is too many.

I also think if this is going to be a "team" game, then the Captains could draft their teams from a pool of players and the teams could decide their starting lineup.

I appreciate the time you have dedicated to LF pazuzu. I enjoy playing. I think we should finish this game under our current rule structure and then decide how we want to implement new rules, possibly recruit more players and start a new game.

End rant.

Yes, the captain will still be able to veto the move. This rule is only for the purpose of keeping the game from ending so early.

This is how I'm planning to set it up. If you make a blunder, the captain will get a 48 hour time period in which he can veto the move. Any moves that come after the blunder will then have to be replayed once the new move is played.

While it does mean the the game will jump back and forth, it's not like it'll happen on every move being made. The captains will only get to use their veto powers 5 times during the whole game. We could even change it to 2 or 3 times during the game if it becomes too much of a problem.

Besides, jumping back and forth shouldn't be a problem in a game called Leap Frog.

As far as the captains being vetoed, all I can say is if the highest rated player on your team needs to be vetoed, then your team pretty much sucks...

Re: Leap Frog Game
I will vote 1, restart.

Just as a possible suggestion, Pazu, maybe we can try a new variant of Leap where you start out just like in a theme tourney where the first 6-7 moves or so, are from a known position, and that way, the captain does not have to start with the mundane opening.

just a thought. I like themes in corr because they get right to the meat of the matter

That's an interesting idea, I'm not sure if punishing the whole team for an individual's actions would work, but I do like the idea.

Sure, then we can change the name of the game to Nova and play the games in a live tournament... j/k Wiz...

The idea behind the team assignments is to try and keep the teams as even as possible, that might be a problem with polling out the players.

Or maybe we need a rule change so the game doesn't end so early.

This could be a good idea, as long as everybody can agree on which opening they want to use I don't see a problem with it.

Re: Leap Frog Game
I vote for #2, take back Kingsfull move, then go on.

SD176 has good idea, but rather than having everybody agree on which theme to pick, I think the TD should pick it, it'll make it faster to move on.

Thanks for your time and effort in making this game work, pazuzu, and thanks for letting me put in my 2 cents.

Re: Leap Frog Game
I vote for number 3. I found it hard to make the decision, and I won't mind at all if number 2 wins the vote. But I voted with my heart and in the spirit of the game. Mistakes happen and I would not like to see them "ruled out" of the game. A good leap frog game is a match where fortunes fluctuate. If vote 2 wins, that element will be taken away to a large extent. I would like to see black fight this game out to the end..I still think we can win ! Losing a piece early , is just a minor setback. Grevillea.

Re: Leap Frog Game
The new rule isn't meant to eliminate all mistakes, with only a limited number of vetoes, the captain will have to use them wisely. In other words, I would think they would be used in game ending blunders more than anything else, and that is all this rule is intended for, to keep the game alive.

It wouldn't bother me if black wanted to play on, but I think you saw in the last game that not everyone is willing to play in a lost position.
