Trencher, any progress? I resent you a challenge, as our game had timed out.

Also, crosstable has been updated again.

Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT
I figure I've got 8 losses between you, jaume, bart, and Glad ... :)

Just as an oh-by-the-way, in response to a suggestion that the next MOT's pools be split by ratings (which is valid), I did a short exercise of splitting the current two pools hypothetically, and this is what I came up with (based on today's ratings):

Jaume1959 (2445)
Gladiator (2358)
WizardNo1 (2356)
Vindicus (2215p)
power (2150)
kastelka (2141)
SouthernComfort (2052)
Zilon (2047)

Bartvinnik (1991)
DOORMAN (1895)
Grim (1759)
Blue (1758)
Kingsfull (1682)
REM (1607)
TrencherKnight (1475)

This might actually have made the pools much more competitive, certainly from my perspective, although I do enjoy playing against the likes of the top 8 listed there (even though I get slaughtered.) I don't think it would help Blue, however ... he's beyond help. :)

Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT
Ok, Gentlemen, as of today I can make moves again. Don't know what happened that I can - no response from Admin.

Forfeited 37 games though.

What can I do re: this tournament? I will play if playing doesn't cause too much trouble.

Yes, I suggest that Trencher just start over from scratch and that those
games he forfeited be forgotten, as far as this event is concerned.
Welcome back, Trencher!

Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT
Good effort.

I believe you only get stronger by playing better players.

I thought of this sort of hybrid system:

I seeded the top 8 players and divided them 1-8,2-7,3-6,4-5.

I divided them between two groups

Group A:

Jaume1959
Bartvinnik
power
kastelka
DOORMAN
Blue
REM
Grim

Group B:

Gladiator
Zilon
WizardNo1
SouthernComfort
Kingsfull
Vindicus
trencherKnight
Mr. X (?)

I did not seed myself as I have a provisional rating. This grouping evenly distributes the top 8 seeds and the others are randomly slotted. This is the method used in Tennis to provide fresh brackets in each tournament and to even up competition while still allowing the possibility for the "the best" to play "the worst". Submitted for your consideration

Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT
Looks good to me, V. Next person to host a MOT (anyone stepping up?) might want to consider it.

Personally, I like the tennis method. It also ends up ensuring you've got: a) the possibility of someone new and excellent making it to the final round; and, b) the final round will be against top contenders.

Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT
But:

If you have a REM and also a Grim and both in the same Event
How do you tell the two apart before your time's all spent?

Do you try to remember that REM's the one who does not have the "g"
Or that Grim is just the one whose "i" is not an "e"?

In any case, I wish to say I'm glad of my selection
To be assigned, and to play in, the other tourney section!

Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT
Ok, I've sent my 2 challenges to Gladiator and 1 challenge to Blue (as we're already playing one). For those of you who were used to rapid responses when playing me that's no longer the case. I'm working 50-60 hours a week and don't have access to Caissa from work (so no chess breaks).
