Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
Sadly I have to report of a loss against Bartvinnik. But Id also like to share the game, as it have an unexpected sacrifice of beauty.

[Event "Challenge"]
[Site "Caissa's Web"]
[Date "2010.08.01"]
[White "Bartvinnik"]
[Black "Zilon"]
[Result "1-0"]
[TimeControl "20/720"]
[WhiteELO "1972"]
[BlackELO "2054"]
[ECO "B06"]
[Opening "Robatsch defense"]

1. e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 3. Nc3 c6 4. Bc4 d6 5. Qf3 e6 6. Nge2 b5 7. Bb3 a5 8. a3 Ba6 9.
O-O Nd7 10. Bf4 Qe7 11. e5 d5 12. Rfd1 f6 13. Qe3 fxe5 14. dxe5 Qf7 15. Ne4 dxe4
16. Nc3 Bf8 17. Nxe4 Be7 18. Nd6+ Bxd6 19. exd6 O-O-O 20. Bxe6 Qe8 21. Qb6

I thought I had things under control and the game was developing quite nicely when out of the blue came 15 Ne4! A bit carelessly I accepted the sacrifice and then all hell broke loose.....

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
According to the tournament chart, I lost both games to power, but my game as White vs. power is still in progress.

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
If Zilon splits the point early in all his games, and is thus Fast On The Draw, shall we call him Marshall Zilon?

(I hope I am not banned from the Board after this.)

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
that was a far-sighted move on 15, but I have to question your queen-side castle?? I realize the king-side would have been problematic, but what was wrong with leaving things be and getting back on the offensive? I also realize I'm not a brilliant player, so this question might seem foolish.

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
not a dumb question at all.Playing over the game I thought Black's 16th can't be right and wondered why not simply 16 ne7 looking at either d5 or f5 and castling kside.Like I said these are just my quick thoughts and there might be (probably is) a huge glitch in this plan.

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
On Bartvinnik -Zilon Famous Game

I might have rushed my judgment too, but it seems to me that in case of

16 Nc3 if black answers 16... Ne7, then a possible continuation is:
17 Nxe4 0-0
18 Ng5 Qe8
19 Bxe6+ Kh8
20 Bxd7 with a very serious advantage for white!

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
At the time of the game I also looked at 16 ... Ne7, actually it was initially my plan. But after some thinking I decided against it, primarily because after 17 Nxe4 white have two major threats. Immediately it is threating the fork on d6. It is also threatining Ng5 and then either Bxe6 or Nxe6. I didnt found any staifing defence against the two threats and then decided on Bf8 and Be7. In that line 0-0-0 is a mistake, Nf8 may be better. But the black position is quite hopeless all the same and to be quite frank at this stage I didnt give the game as much attention as I should have....

But analyzing Ne7 now it seems it might be the correct defence.
16 ... Ne7
17 Nxe4 0-0
and if
18 Rxd7 Qxf4
19 Rxe7 Bxe5
20 Bxe6 Kh8
and white is up a pawn and probably have the better position, but its no clear loss for black.

or if
18 Ng5 Qxf4
and white have saced two pieces and it is not clear how to recapture more then one of them.

Although white gets the advantage and 15 Ne4 seems to be correct, 16 ... Ne7 clearly seems to be the better defence against it.

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
actually if 17 nxe4 I was thinking perhaps nf5 rather than 0-0.Very complicated and difficult though for Black.

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
16 ... Ne7
17 Nxe4 Nf5
and now
18 Nd6 Nxd6
19 Rxd6
and again black have difficulties defending e6. 0-0 dont work due to Bxe6. Nf8 saves the pawn (at least temporarily) but white have several good moves: Ra-d1, Qb6 and Bg5. And the black knight on f8 pins the black king in the center of the board, this position is lost for black.

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
Hi, I was analizing a little bit your comments and there is a hard move after 19... Bxe5. It is 20.Qh3! Bg7 21.g3 Qxe4 (if 21... Qh6 22.Qxh6+ Kh8 23.Nd6+- with definitive advantage) 22.Bxe6+ Kh8 23.Bg8! Rxg8 24.Rxe4+-. The possibilitie es 19... Qxe5 20.c3! (better han 20.Bxe6+ Kh8 21.Re1 h6 22.c3+/-) 20... Kh8 (if Bc8 21.g3 Kh8 22.f4 Qf5 23.Td1+-) 21.Rxe6+- and the pawn c6 will be captured.

In fact it seems your mistake was 13... fxe5. Better seems 13... g5 14.exf6 Bxf6 15.Be5 b4+/=. And probably better than 12... f6 it was 12... Nh6

In relation to 17... Nf5 better than Nd6+ seems 18.Qc3! and the black positions falls like a house of cards.

Anyway 15.Ne4 great move!

Re: Monkeys Bum: The Dealers
The tournament chart was fixed, but now it shows, again, that I have
two losses to power, when my game, as White, vs. power is still in
progress.
