The story of this tournament was this: The top three players, myself, Azathoth, and Bartvinnik won all their games with players 4 through 11. In the 6 games between the three leaders, it came down to who could hold the draw with the White pieces and who could not. This opening is so bad for White that it seemed obvious that White was not going to win any games (and White did not). I was not able to hold the draw, as White, versus either of my two opponents. Bartvinnik, as White, held the draw against me, but not against Azathoth. Azathoth held the draw versus both me and Bartvinnik, and thus scored a very deserving win of the Event. I do not see any small compensation for white in this gambit. In my two games with white against Wiz and bartvinnik I have always been inferior and only a good defensive strategy and any error of my opponent allowed me to do draw. Thank you all again and I attached you the two games to see the difficulty of the white. Edited on 18 Mar 2012 at 22:52:14 |

Reply | 21 Mar 2012, 08:41:16   Re: The Bullfrog is away!!. CROSSTABLE AND GAMES The Bullfrog has now almost croaked. TrencherKnight and Kingsful* no doubt are gratefull to Spud for keeping them off the bottom of the ladder.Meanwhile the top four spots have been decided, and it is now a 3 way contest for 5th place, between thornydevil and traditional rivals; grim and blue. thornydevil 7 points with 3 results to post Grim 8 points with 2 results to post Blue 8 and a half points with 1 result to post. Grim has two games with Dual space. Thornydevil has two games with Dual space, and 1 with Blue. My game with Blue has now tipped over the 90 move mark, and so it deserves to be a draw, but since Grim offered me 50 bucks to beat blue, I will fight it out to the end. * Kingsfull has had an hell of a tournament and from now will be known as Kingsful. |

I will hold on for awhile, but you may have me beat at this point. |

CROSSTABLE AND GAMES Oh, and since Dual didn't post it: Grim 0 - Dualspace 1 He and I have an interesting endgame going on that looks a lot like a draw, but there's still play left. In other news, I had a very nice positional advantage against Thorny in a Corr Tournament, which I threw away entirely via my normal strategy of losing against Blue -- making moves with very little sleep. :) |

I'm assuming that Caissa offered it for me, having seen some criteria. Not sure what it could have been though as we'd recently exchanged pieces and thornydevil had a pawn and a knight. I had no pawns or pieces left. I don't think we'd repeated a position either. Maybe I should go review the draw rules... |

Thornydevil 2 DualSpace 0 [neither of them forfeits] Blue v thornydevil was a draw. On reflection , I think the draw was offered by Caissa, since Blue was down to his king. At the time, I assumed that , the offer of a draw had come from Blue. But no worries, it was a fair result. Thanks to Spud for running the Mot. |
