Please make your challenges starting on 1 Oct. This will also be the results board. Unlike Spud, I have not named the crosstables. :) I will put up the layout when I have a bit more time. -Grim Crosstable Assignments: Table 1

Reply | 4 Oct 2010, 12:07:17 In reply to Grim Re: Official Thread: Evans Gambit MOT At the risk of being labeled a Busybody (justifiably!) I am going to get my two cents in here. I am wondering if the Random methodology used to put the two, "Tables" together is the best plan for an event like this. It appears to me that Table 1, with the Random generation, has turned out to be considerbly stronger than Table 2, what with, arguably, the two best correspondence playsrs on Caissa, Gladiator and jaume1959, plus the up-and-coming Bartvinnik, and this old Pawnpusher. I don't know that this has anything to do with the hesitation of Blue and TrencherKnight to jump into the thick of things, but it is certainly a possibility. When the next eventlike this is organized, I hope some consideraton will be given either to balancing the Sections by lining the players up according to rating and placing every other one in a different section,or to having an "Open" section for the top-rated half of the entrants, and a "Reserve" section for the bottom half. I want to thank Grim for organizing this Event! My comments are just friendly suggestions, and nothing more. TDing is a thankless job, and I don't mean to make it moreso. Certainly valid points, all. Speaking as the only sub-2000 who was placed into the "Dealers" pool in the previous MOT, and basically getting a butt-whipping all around (except for the game power spotted me a queen), I can understand that sentiment. But then, these tournaments are also a chance for players to get more exposure, not just to openings but also to superior players. Personally, my game has improved significantly over the past year+ since I started entering these MOTs -- I had pretty much stagnated playing Blue all the time ... :) |

A simple 1-16, 8-9, 4-13, 5-12, etc. works fairly well. The problem with random is the higher rated players can be bunched. One solution would be to seed the top half of each division, leaving the rest to random chance. Sort of a hybrid. It is the method used in most tennis tournaments. That way you keep things scrambled up. I have used the site random.org. myself. Edited on 5 Oct 2010 at 10:04:36 |

Will the game you are trying to make a move in come up at all? Have you tried using another computer to access Caissa and make a move? Have you tried re-installing Java? Have you tried using the non-Java mode? Explain just what happens when you try to access a game and make a move. I am sure that somebody here can help you solve this problem. Do that, and post here again if that does not tix things. Wiz |
