Reply | 14 Jul 2011, 13:51:21   Re: Benko-Volga group 2 Kastelka's recent Black win over my White is one of the more enjoyable games I've lost in a long time. I wanted to share it here. I thought long and hard about 27. axb5 before making the move, but missed the follow-on checking of my king a few moves later. I knew I was on the brink of victory or defeat with that move, and it was only a few moves later ( ... Qh2) that I realized the end was nigh. Kastelka was kind enough to entertain additional moves on my part and not end the game, just so we could keep it going. :) Anyway, thought I'd share it. -J |

No worries, I just wanted to make sure you didn't have two games that were the same, or perhaps you had a Corr tourney game and got switched up. |

Reply | 19 Jul 2011, 14:47:54 In reply to Blue Re: Benko-Volga group 2 Thank you Blue for your nice words, but you are a very strong player yourself. In this game I was a little bit lucky. Indeed, for a long time I thought the game was even, and it could have gone either way. Your bishop at g7 was very strong, and I just wanted either to exchange it for one of my knights, or even a rook, or to restrain its activity as much as possible. I was not quite familiar with the Benko Gambit, and I did not have time to study it too much, therefor my handling of the opening was awkward and not inspiring. However it helped a lot Wizard’s comments, though a little too late for me, and Jaume’s games. Thank you Grim for this beautiful tourney. Congratulations to Jaume for winning the tournament.
