Pirc. Austrian Attack: OFFICIAL THREAD
Hi all

Things are a bit quiet on the Tourney front so lets see what we can get happening.

The Opening I’ve chosen is Pirc: Austrian attack:
1. e2e4 d7d6 2. d2d4 g8f6 3. b1c3 g7g6 4. f2f4.

Nominations open immediately by replying to this post and the Tournament will commence on 1 May.

Usual Correspondence rules: play everyone twice, once as black and once as white with the standard Challenge format.

Cheers

Re: Pirc. Austrian Attack
I kind of liked his original opening ... not sure how that would have worked, though. :)

I'm always in, my friend.

Hey Spud
Thanks for organizing this.I'd normally join but I have just started playing in the USCF again with my goal to regain my Postal Master rating. (Had it, lost it about 15 years ago and stopped playing there)So for now I will have to pass and concentrate my energies there.

Re: Pirc. Austrian Attack
(For the purposes of fully appreciating my entry poem, one must understand that, "Pirc" is pronounced, "Perts.") LOL

I do not like this opening, Pirc
As I get positons so bad it hurts
Still add me to the entry list
As a Spud Event just can't be missed!

Re: Pirc. Austrian Attack
How are we doing with entries and groupings. One suggestion is you might try seeding the groups by taking the top two from four gruops (8 total) and ditributuing them 1-8, 4-5, 3-6, 2-7 and then just randomly assigning the rest to the groups. Sort of like the tennis. Or you might try seeding all the players by place in group, like the World Cup.. Using the above example of four gruops, that would have the top players seeded 1-4, the 2nd place in each gruop 4-8, the 3rd place in each gruop 9-12 and so on. Either way would probably be fine. Hope these suggestions help.

Re: Pirc. Austrian Attack: OFFICIAL THREAD
Ok people...its nearly show time and it looks like we've got all the players we're gonna get so here's the two groups with some temporary names...feel free to change them if you want...I'll set up a CrossTable Thread for each where the groups can post games etc...there will be a play-off at the end of the Tourney between winners of the the two groups to decide the overall Tourney winner...

....start challenging

Some very large roman numeral number, I bet.

If anyone wants inspiration, the World Chess Championship Candidate matches are underway, Kamsky (USA) is doing very well, now in the Semis after taking out Topalov.

Candidate Matches WCC (winner to face Anand)

Re: Pirc. Austrian Attack: OFFICIAL THREAD
that was a big surprise when he knocked out Topolov.Where are Carlson and Nakamoro (sp) in this? Why aren't they playing? Are they seeded into another round or something?

Re: Pirc. Austrian Attack: OFFICIAL THREAD
One is not required to watch Fischer to be inspired to chess. Mozart is not the only composer to inspire musicians, nor Dostoyevsky writers, nor Picasso artists.

Inspiration is where one finds it.
