Re: Monkeys Bum deferred: OFFICIAL THREAD
This is the thread Vertator stole from the tournament, so I'm stealing it back.

Thanks to Spud for hosting this tournament. I became a HUGE fan of the divisions. I was able to keep track of my games and I think I got plenty of exposure to the opening.

I can say that I am not a fan of this opening. I play 4. f4 as white instead of 4. Bc4, and I don't play the modern as black.

I found that as black, 5. ... Nf6 left me unorganized and too weak on the Q side.

6. e5 dxe5
7. dxe5 Nd5
8. Nxd5 cxd5
9. Bxd5 0-0
10. Bxb7 Qa5+
11. c3 Bxb7
12. Qxb7 Na6

I always felt a step behind.

5. ... e6 didn't seem as straight forward, but in my games lead to more blocked positions and I don't thrive in blocked positions.

I am glad I played in this tournament and I'm curious to hear everyone else's opinion on the opening.

Thanks again Spud, great job!

Re: Monkeys Bum deferred: OFFICIAL THREAD
yes Kudos to Spud for organizing this.In retrespect I think the best line for Black is 1 e4 g6 2 d4 bg7 3 nc3 c6 4 bc4 d6 5 qf3 e6 6 ng2 b5

after Bb3 (which I played against Spud)a5 gives Black some nice play. After 7 Bd3 I'm not sure but at a minimum White has lost a tempo

Re: Monkeys Bum deferred: OFFICIAL THREAD
Thanks fellas....In spite of my own 8-0.5 result in this Tourney and the "pitch invasion", I'm enjoying the whole TD thing.

While I still want to think about about how it might work, subject to the support of the affected parties, I reckon we might try and arrange some play-offs once the Rounds have finished.

Vertator, who seems to have been kicked off this Site, and rightly so, must be some kid with some playing strength, but not much else. In other words, a:

Re: Monkeys Bum deferred: OFFICIAL THREAD
I agree with Yaman. After 6... b5 the position seems good for black because the white position is restricted. The black pawn structure is not comfortable for white. I have played with white 6.Be3 and 6.Cge2, the normal white moves... and I made a curious "novelty" with 6.h4!? with a very interesting game against Bartvinnik that we are even playing. The continuation has been the following:

6.h4 Bxd4 7.Bf4 Nd7 (also is interestig 7... b5 8.Bb3 a5 9.Rd1 with complex position) 8.0-0-0 Be5 (to be considered 8... Ne5 9.Qg3 Bxf2 10.Qxf2 Nxc4 and they are interesting 11.Qd4 and 11.Nf3) 9.Bxe5 Nxe5 10.Qe2 b5 (Also Nf6) 11.Bxb5!? cxb5 12.Nxb5 with a complicated position, but finally a little better for white.

Thanks Spud for you organization!

Re: Monkeys Bum deferred: OFFICIAL THREAD
Dear Spud, I think it is already possible to start the second phase of this tournament because there is only one game pending to finish (jaume1959-power), but the positions for the groups are finally clear.

It is only a thinking... obviously the decision is yours like organizer.

thanks and congratulations for the election of this opening I feel very very interesting.

Thanks Jaume

I didn't want to interfere with the current Tourny, so I'll email you, Wiz and Yaman in the next few week or so with some possible approachs we can consider for a Finals Round.
