Given that this will be a 'live' tourney; Perhaps the problem, Re. one player, losing a game by 'time-forfeiture'; Even though the opponent has insufficient mating material, won't come up. But, if it involves having to 'click' a frickin' "Claim Draw" icon; When the {pertinent} icon, may or may not, appear onscreen; I'm afraid that sooner or later, until this flaw is cleared up; It's conceivable that any 'final scoretable result'; Will be mired in controversy! -- |

NOVA 2010 REGISTRATION Registration begins immediately and will continure until noon, February 6, 2010, at which time it will close. Please register by posting your intent to enter here in this thread. An entry list will be maintained here. If you enter, check this list to be sure your entry has been read and posted on this list. ORGANIZATION NOVA is a Team Tournament which utilizes four-man Teams. Teams will be formed by a computer-generated methodology geared to balance the strength of the Teams as evenly as possible. NOVA is a live game Tournament, with the default time control being 30/30. However, if both players in a pairing so agree, times controls as fast as G/10 or as slow as 30/60 (or anything in-between) may be employed. The most higly-rated player on a Team becomes its Captain, although this most-highly-rated player may name another Team member to be Captain, if this is agreed upon. The duty of the Captain is principally to make sure the members of his Team get their games scheduled and played. ROUNDS AND PROCEDURES The last NOVA attracted some 72 entrants. We must have a minimum of 16 in this one to have it take place. The event will be a Round-Robin with Teams placed in four-team Divisions. Then number of Divisions and the number of Teams in each Division will be determined by the number of entries. A major change in NOVA 2010 is that only one game will be played between players who are paired in each match, not two as in all previous NOVAs. One game will be scheduled each week, with White in a pairing contacting Black to set up a game time. The default game time will be each Saturday at 4 P.M. U. S. Central Time. If a game between two paired players has not been completed by that time, it must be completed AT that time. I will open a Room to which players in a pairing must report before beginning the game. If one player does not appear, he is forfeited. If neither player appears the game is scored as a double-forfeit. Players who have already completed their game for a given week do not need to appear. This Event will begin on Sunday, February 7, 2010 after the Teams, Divisions, and Pairings are posted on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Since this is a Roung-Robin Event, with all pairings in the Preliminatires posted, it is possible and acceptable for Players to play their scheduled games early. In fact, all scheduled games could possibly be played on the very first day of the Tournament if all players in the pairings so agree! The default scheduling is one game per week, however. BEGINNING GAMES The player of White in a pairing must contact the player of Black and set up a game time. If this is not done, then the game must be played at the default game period, which is each Saturday at 4 P.M. U. S. Central Time. No player will have more than three or four games in this evnet unless his Team makes the Playoffs. The nature of these Playoffs will depend on the number of players, and thus the number of Divisions, in this Event. Results of games should be posted here by the winner, or by White if the game is drawn. QUESTIONS If you have any questions about this Event, please post them here, but I hope I have made everything clear. ENTRIES We welcome players of all ratings to this Tournament, but all must be Caissa Members, not Guests. And, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THIS EVENT UNLESS YOU INTEND TO PLAY ALL YOUR GAMES. No player will have more than three or four games, or five or six games if his Team makes the Playoffs. Get your entry in by posting it here as soon as possible! Tournament Director (U.S.C.F. Senior TD) WizardNo1 |
