Hello, fellow Caissans,

I am planning to start up a new Member Organized Tournament,
a correspondence chess "Theme" tourney, here in Caissa.
The opening theme in this particular tournament is the very
exciting "Poisoned Pawn Variation" of the Sicilian Defense.
To take part, each participant will play 2 games with every
other participant, one as white, one as black, and ALL games
starting out with the same exact opening moves. (see below).
 
The tourney will begin on October 15, 2008. The sign up is
in the Member Organized Tournament (MOT) Bulletin Board
(under the Bulletin Boards Tab on Caissa page), or through
the mail here, with me, SnoopDog176. Results will also be
tallied on a cross table in the same thread in the MOT BB.
 
In the case of this correspondence chess tourney, again,
the opening for all games will be the highly dynamic Poisoned
Pawn variation of the Sicilian defense, an opening used
between Spaasky / Fischer in their 1972 world championship
match. All games you will play will start with the following:

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cd 4. Nd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6
7. f4 Qb6 8. Qd2 Qxb2!?
- leaving both players a most fertile and dynamic position
from which to begin play.
 
Playing Instructions for Tourney Participants:
To challenge someone, go to "corr games", one of the tabs
of the main screen. Select "challenges". Select "show
advanced options". You can then issue a challenge by typing
the name of your opponent.

Play speed should remain standard. Challenge your opponent
twice, once with black, once with white. On the "comment" tab,
you may state the tourney name/opening (optional).

Also, to get all the prescribed moves in as fast as possible,
it is recommended that you use the "IF-THEN" option when making
a move. It is not necessary, but it gets the mandatory moves in
twice as fast, leaving you where the real fun begins, faster.

For participants, the winner of any game has the responsibility
to report the result to me, SnoopDog176, and in case of a draw,
white has that responsibility. (example: black wins, report
"Fifi 0 - Tippy 1"; white wins, report "Fifi 1 - Tippy 0",
name order is always by color, w/b, not winner/loser)
 
I hope to get as many registrations as possible before
14th October 2400 GMT, as AdminBrian will post this message
to all members.

That might make the games take longer to play. Now if they use the If-Then option...

This tourney is a good thing for Caissa. When I started the Keres, the number of results in the corres section was always more than 500. Now my tourney has almost finished and we are back to 389.

OK. I just got back from Wall Mart with my $2.00 chess set. You big guns better watch out. I am bringing my corr rating of 2 and my little set with me. Count me in and I do hope I don't have to play Qxb2. That scares me a little.

So far the most popular MOT on Caissa. Hope every registered player will participate. That was not the case with the French MOT.
