Reply | 13 Apr 2008, 22:59:46   Re: Live Caro-Kann Tourn. Anyone? Wiz makes good suggestions. Here is a summary of next Saturday's Live Caro-Kann Tournament. Date: Saturday, 19 April 2008. Start Time: 1:00pm CDT US (2pm EDT, 11am PDT, 18:00 UTC) We will meet in the chat room at the start time, with first round starting soon after. Round 2 will start at 2:30pm CDT. Round 3 will start at 4:00pm CDT. For those who would like to stick around, we'll have a post mortem in the chat room after the last game completes. So you can expect at most a total of 4.5 hours of activity. Of course you may complete certain rounds early so you may duck in and out in that case. Just make sure to show up at the time of the next round. Time control: 30/15. Opening: Caro-Kann. Format: 3 round Swiss. Players: 1. WizardNo1 2. Gladiator 3. EELDROP 4. TrencherKnight 5. greenjeans 6. DualSpace 7. grevillea 8. This could be you! Edited on 13 Apr 2008 at 23:06:04 |

WizardNo1 said: We really need to get that eighth player badly, as, otherwise, there will have be a Bye each round. I expect we will have an eighth player by Saturday. Let me work on that. Of course we should also plan for 1-2 no-shows. Edited on 15 Apr 2008 at 18:23:28 |

Just a reminder that if you have not played a live game in a while, you may want to fire up the Live Game interface and give it a go before the tournament on Saturday. Any problems should be resolved before them. Also, if you have not already done so you may want to review the Live Game Challenge Video Tutorial for how to challenge your opponent at the correct time control (30/15) and the correct opening (Caro-Kann). |

Should be fully awake about half way through round 2. All those who want to play me in round 1, please form an orderly queue.

Reply | 18 Apr 2008, 21:04:21   Re: Live Caro-Kann Tourn. Anyone? Some notes on the Tournament procedures. All players will meet in the Tournament chat room at the start of each round. I will announce the round pairings in the chat room. At that time, the player with the white pieces will send a Live Games Challenge to the player with the black pieces. Here are some notes on the Live Games Challenge function. 1. You must have your Live Game Challenges ENABLED in order to receive challenges. You can make sure this is turned on by going to the tab Live Games»Configuration»Configure Challenges»Allow Challenges»ON. Also make sure the "30/15" time control option is checked. If you made any changes, click SAVE. 2. If you are receiving the challenge, before your opponent has a chance to challenge you, you might get a challenge from another player on the site looking for the game. You will want to DECLINE all incoming challenges except for the player you are paired with in the tournament. The incoming challenge will list the HANDLE of the player challenging you. Just make sure it is the player you are paired with in the tournament and click ACCEPT. 3. Here are the Challenge options you will want to choose if you are sending the Challenge: Game»Chess Time Control»30/15 Rating»Fully Rated Color»I will play white Starting Position»Popular Openings»B1812 Caro-Kann Defense (1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5) At this point check the box next to your opponent's handle and Send the Challenge! The game will begin and the first two moves representing the Caro-Kann opening will already be made. If there are any problems just head back to the Chat Room and we will get it worked out. You might want to check out the Live Games Challenge Video Tutorial if you have not done so already. Edited on 18 Apr 2008 at 23:43:39 |

I think these are the opening moves. 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 .The popular sequence from then results in bishops being exchanged on the 9th and 10 th moves.I don't know if we should go down that path in the spirit of the theme of the competition or not.

For this tournament the only opening moves you are committed to are 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5. If the Live Games Challenge is made correctly with the Caro-Kann as the starting position, these moves will already be made on the board when the game starts. |
