In this game I think black was Ok after 13.... d5. Strong center and up a pawn, but black has to give up castling rights. no biggie.
 
But obviously, black's last move, 17..... Nc5 is lame for a 1200 player. Just can't sometimes see the next move in front of me. How to toally blow it in one easy move!
 
Yaman suggested that if black played Nxe5, white had nothing.
I agree in a sense that black is then up two pawns but still has to fight Qg5+ and get all cramped up, probably leaving the K-rook undeveloped.
 
What I had planned to play up until the last second was 17..... f6, preventing Qg5+.
 
I think it holds water and black should be even eventually, and maybe even up 1 pawn in the endgame.

Just looking at the crosstable,,
we have almost completed the tourney and we lost no players along the way, which is great. I think most everyone has mostly around 24-25 games done (out of 30).
 
So maybe it is time we begin to ponder the next Corr MOT.
what will it be? who will run it? will we go with sections (probably)

Rap is right! Orangtang!...as I told him...it was Rollanother ...at the begining of caissa who used it against me the first time..and i lost....it was love at first sight for me with that opening, lots of tricks and surprises if u are not careful...it produces very vivid games...

when I did this one i twas either going to be the poisoned pawn or the dragon. I'd like the dragon, sure.
 
but I think Gladiator wants to do a Marshall counter attack (ruey lopez). So we'll see.

i almost understand this one. the one thing i cant get is why on 4 the knight didnt x e4. oh well, the folks who designed and played this are far far sharper than me.
 
With my corr rating of 8 and live at 14 perhaps i just dont grasp the situation.

 
There isn't a knight in position to take e4 at move 4.

There isn't any reason Nxe4 can't be played, it is a known variation on the opening, Ruy Lopez Open Defense. 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 a6 4 Ba4 Nf6 5 O-O Nxe4 6 d4 b5 7 Bb3 d5 8 dxe5 Be6 9c3 Bc5

OK I got that. I was thinking there might be a more sinister reason to NOT take the pawn. I cant see much past 3, or really streatching it to 4, moves.

No, there is nothing sinister about it, when you have thousands of different ways you can play an opening then something is going to be left out somewhere.

I'd prefer a main line Ruy to a Marshall gambit Ruy.I never play e4 as White or e5 as black (against e4) but The Marshall has known theory going a gazillion miles out.Main line only goes out to move 20ish?
