It is a rainbow lorikeet. They are naturally very cautious birds , and prefer to live and feed in the tree tops. They have a large tongue which they dip into grevillea flowers for honey... or into a honey jar, if they can find one.

I miss Australian wildlife. There is nothing that colourful in the UK...and nothing much that can kill you...boring. Ozzzie birds are noisier too.

Did you go anywhere else on your trip? Did you get down to Victoria, or Queensland? As good as the red center is, I would not put it at the top of the list for tourists. And how long ago was it; sounds like you were there after the great bilby plague which nearly caused a mass extinction of everything from buffalo to crocs.

Re: Photo enlargement for Bladerunner
Fucking bilbies! There were a couple of small towns taken out by them I heard. A building full of refugees from their advance was wasted as well...there was a 10 year old with a slingshot on the roof, so you can't blame the furry little buggers though.

You did not even see a roo? Quite a few tourists get lost out there. Two American tourists got taken by crocs within a few months of each other years ago (I think the bilbies were behind it...). The joke did the rounds..."How do you seperate 2 fighting crocs? Give them a Yank."

If you like I will tell you my joke about Princess Di worked on to diss Marcel Marceau (mimes...I ask you!...sigh). Worse than bilbies and half the talent.

By your little hamlet you don't mean the play but Adelaide I assume. Then they turned water in to wine I suppose. Bible class?! Try to keep this credible.

Does anyone want to hear the joke (no I don't mean IBIJ but I dare say we will hear from it in time as well)?

Re: Photo enlargement for Bladerunner
Well, it is better than bible class.

Ok...this does have visual elements, so you will have to bear with me. A friend (he is is a sick fuck too) and I were driving along. Said friend has a natural aversion to mimes, and Marcel Marceau had recently gone through the motions (little mime joke there) of dying.

Now...one of my favourite jokes is the one about Princess Di...what would she be doing if she was alive today? Scratching at the coffin lid!

Anyway, I warmed up with this one - "what were they doing at Marcel Marceau's funeral?" I then made exaggeratered rubbing motions at my eyes (crying, get it!? hilarious).

Anyway..."what would Marcel Marceau be doing if he was alive today?" Act out feeling a flat surface six inches in front of face.

If there is a hell I am surely bound for it. Either that or Adelaide.

Re the Di one, of the six people i told, 4 thought it was great, one has to have it explained to them and one (who I hadn't realised was BIG Princess Di fan) was offended.....not a bad result all up.

Re the Mime one, 6/6 pissed themselves laughing

Mate, you have made my day! Insulted a PD fan! You beaut!!

Also impressed that urine was expressed re MM. I rather liked the little number, impro as it was. We had tears literally running down our faces we thought it was so funny (poor MM, and PD for that matter, but comeon...).
