Reply | 28 Nov 2011, 03:13:43   ********** Read Along and enjoy************** For Wiz#1. I remember you mentioned one time you were the music director and a trumpet master at Ole Miss (?). I think you might enjoy this trombone piece. It's a read along also. Actually this piece was originally written for a Cornet. Q. Who can play this well? A Wynton Marsalis Edited on 28 Nov 2011 at 03:18:24 |

I played the entire Arban version on my Senior Trumpet Recital back in 1949 when I was 21! We didn't have any kind of recording machines back then except for the wire recorder, which was just coming in and had awful fidelity. How I wish I had a modern-day tape of that recital! Thanks for posting this! Wiz |

Then I got into teaching, got my M.A. from Alabama and later my Ph. D. from L.S.U. in composition and conducting. Won my first Mississippi Chess Championship at 25 and what is sure to be my last one at 66. Finished 2nd at 72, though! Oh, and I taught at Miss. State U., not Ole Miss.

My Dad had played coronet and trumpet since he was 13 and the Carnival of Venice was one of his favorites. At 75 he thought the trumpet might require too much excertion for a man his age and switched to piano which he played for 9 years before he passed away this past February. |
