Reply | 22 Aug 2011, 13:37:15   stretching out a lost game i play cor chess. i have had several players stretch out the ending of a game after an obvious loss. taking as much time as possible on each move. and finally running out of time rather than resigning. i find this unethical. comon, you lost the game, resign. i can see playing it out to learn how to finish up. i don't mind showing this. they have a right to learn as much as they can from a game. so i patiently go through the motions to show them how it is done. do not disrespect the game or your opponent by stretching. "chess like love, like music has the power to make men happy" i think i am quoting pillsbury. happy chessing fellow chessnuts. Gordon |

Whereupon, I 'consider-the-source' of their 'bad karma' behavior; Secure, in the knowledge, that their displayed negativity; Will sooner or later, come back at them .. in some 'way, shape or form'.. through greater negative, risk-taking, on their part. {'road-rage' perhaps?}. Incidentally; On "ChessCube"; When I have a 'won game'; And my unworthy opponent {whose handle, I take mental note of.. To avoid!}; Has either stopped moving, {while their clock is running}; Or is taking, their 'sweet-time'; I find other things to do.. {stretching my legs, for one!}. .. Knowing that: "That which does not kill me; Will make me stronger"!; As in, a further Life's lesson, in patience! -- |

Reply | 25 Aug 2011, 13:50:31   Re: stretching out a lost game I will often continue play after I know the game is lost, particularly in corr games, but I try to move consistently and fairly. My frustration is with live games, when someone knows they've lost, and they simply disconnect, or perhaps they minimize the game and move on to do something else. If I want the win, I need to sit around and wait for the timer to clock down. If I decide to leave, I lose. :? |

Undoubtedly hoping, that despite your 'won game'; You could decide, to quit, first!? .. and if its 'in-disgust'; Then, 'all-the-better'!, {from his standpoint}. There's also, the 'off-board' "Grim Reaper" angle. Whether it be, dying in an accident.. 'Freak,' or otherwise; Or perhaps, just dying 'naturally'... And maybe even, prematurely!? 'Fwiw'; My own temperament, causes me to avoid all online tourneys. Even those that take place, in the space of several hours. Reasoning; If you're depending on the perseverence of More than one opponent; Then 'Life' has a way of interrupting one's ideal scenario. Even as it concerns my own {rather long ago} 'track-record'.. of Not being {temperamentally} suited; To play out, the bulk of my hypothetical {tourney} games; As a likely 'also-ran.' -- |
