{my comment}.. I would think that successfully packaged media hype, has a lot to do with it! Which, similar to the USA's yearly.. Not so super, 'Super Bowl'; There seems to be, a substantial emphasis, on the personalities engaged in playing, that otherwise unending, back & forth, {mostly kicking} of the ball on the field; With fairly dependable, low-scoring endings!
 
Between the players regularly pretending, that they were 'fouled'; And 'refs' faithfully confirming, {year-in and year out}, the human judging, fallibility factor; 'Imho,' the only 'saving-grace' {as it were}, for this greatly over-hyped pastime, disguised as a game of pure athletic skill; Will be about the year, 2040 or so; When the "World Robotic Soccer" endeavor {on the Web!}; Claims it will field a team of soccer {or 'football' if you prefer}, robots; That will 'kick-butt' of the 'best human team' assembled!?
 
That it will eventually happen, I don't doubt. But, as for their announced time-frame? .. I'll have long since 'passed on'; And I like to think, that I'll have better things to do, in the ethereal 'plane.'--
