Reply | 20 Apr 2010, 13:09:36   Calling all techies and Administrators I know this doesnt belong here, i apologize. my sister is trying to get on caissa with her computer she bought in '02. She gets a message you seem to be using an older version of windows explorer and shure enough she times out. I have heard that there are two versions of windows, 1) VISTA and 2) #7. I have heard that VISTA may have some bugs and they rushed with its production. Windows #7 is more modern and seems to be the more reliable. The way you update is by getting the disk, say for windows #7 and then as if by majic you have a more recent version, and are good to go. I would like to know if I am in the ballpark with this summary and if anyone cares to, to add any necassary refinements that might make a version update all that more complete. Thanks for your help. |

Is one or the other correct, or is it that both are correct????!!!!Thanks for any help!

Do you want to “update” your existing operating system? IE: get the latest so called fixes for you exiting system. If so this is free. Using Vista, which I have, go the control panel and locate the item “Windows Update” click on it and it will probably says something like 3 important and 9 thousand optional (just kidding) Click on download and it will say a few minutes which really means about 19 Bill Gates minutes to complete then process. 2.. Do you want to "upgrade” (change)to a different operating system like Windows 7? Yes you will need the upgrade disk or download from MS site? Upgrade to Windows 7 (download)will cost $119.99 through the MS site. Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium through ebay is about $50 to $70 for the disk. Be careful to get the genuine disk with certificate of authenticity (COA) with the deal. Or just do what I did and go to the Dell site and buy one of the $400 laptops with Win 7 on it. Now the Starbucks crowd can laugh at my stupid moves in g5 and g10 games. Edited on 22 Apr 2010 at 15:32:22 |
