I remember my Calculus teacher used to get very annoyed when I asked him why we needed to learn about derivatives. After about 35 minutes {most of the class period}, trying to convince me how important Calculus is, his final point boiled down to: You might need to know it so you can teach it to someone else, or you might need it if you are in the highest most theoretical echelons the scientific community. He was frustrated by the simplification of his passion. |

Great bit of research Spud.Whitelightening , exposed as a con artist. 2nd Bible Lesson for today; Especially, with "pennine" in mind! {Matthew 7:1-5} 1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Truth be known; I forgot to give attribution to that short story. And Lord knows, that I wasn't trying to burnish my own credentials! .. Even if that were the case {N-O-T!}; In tangible earthly term$; Being 'looked-up-to' on this site; Isn't all that different than getting 75 cents 'off'; On a $1.75 cup of coffee. .. Oh yeah... Add to this; That I don't 'galivant' around the country {much less the world}; Looking up, in person; Those who rather inconceivably, might {theoretically}, idolize me. -- LOL |

That's what happens when you start talking to yourself |

Much less, was even aware he existed; Until 7 minutes ago, 3:22 GMT. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Pleasure of Talking to Oneself When I need to think, I think out loud. Silent reflection is a lonely interior affair, whereas saying one's thoughts audibly splits the self into speaker and listener and turns monologue into dialogue. Nor is any dialogue quite so enjoyable as a dialogue with oneself. This is not a matter of vanity but compatibility. Who else besides me always and unfailingly desires to discuss exactly the same subjects I do? We start from shared premises, hold equivalent interests with equivalent passion, get bored at just the same moment and, without the awkwardness of hinting, simultaneously move on to another topic. Each of us is our own perfect match. {duh.. Isn't that worthy of an ending '!' mark?!/'wL'} |

I can see how the passage you quote might hold true for talking to oneself in private. I dont think it really works for public discussions such as a BB.. Dont you think that talking to yourself in public is a little bit strange?...feel free to Google an answer.

Including the two or more 'paid' Caissa memberships part; Which for my own economic reasons, is coming to an end {at some point}, as regards myself. {one paid membership will be sufficient for me, when my present two handles expire}. - I 'googled' "Everything is relative"; A belief-system that has some validity, and came up with the following video. One of about 20, on "YouTube" that you can access on their site, if you type in: "predictably irrational" on "YouTubes" mini {top-of-their-'homepage'} search-engine. All videos apparently are courtesy of "Duke University." |

Returning to the earlier point, just so I'm clear, are you saying that your non-attribution of the two posts at the start of this thread are just the result of an oversight on your part?...an oversight that repeated itself after a 6 hour interval?....? |

Reply | 29 Mar 2010, 10:58:25 In reply to Spud Re: "Collatz Conjecture" Pick one or more of the following, that applies to you Spud. #1. Recently, I've been a combination of being rather bored, and 'hung-up' about myself. So please excuse me, if @ times I seem overly inquisitive; And possibly, to the point of seeming accusatory. #2. Actually, I Have fancied myself as a news-oriented, gossip-tabloid reporter for these past 7 years. And even though it's frustating, being on these job-specific waiting lists without 'hearing back'; I intend to wait these guys out.. while I further hone my rather obvious abilities. #3. My favorite {Aussie} football team isn't nearly as good as it was 3 years ago. And as a result; My wife suggested that I spend less time watching them on the 'telly' & getting depressed; And more time spent doing 'other things.' -- Well, my last post as you can see, is my 'therapy.' #4. I consider 'SoCo' as my 'soul mate,' in more ways than one. And when you give the appearence of showing up his {posted} beliefs as potentially flawed; I experience both mental empathy pains, And angst! #5. Gosh, you religious 'fundies' drive me 'up-the-wall'! You'll have to excuse me {upon reflection}, for making one of your 'molehills' into a mountain. If it's any consolation; My wife does this to me, All the time! ..{did I hear a voice telling me to 'lighten up'?!} -- |
