MU:

I have played almost only speed chess, started g5, then g2´s and lately g1´s....I agree with some opinions reflected in the article: is addictive and superficial and do not improve your skills in serious chess. I am basically lazy so it was perfect for me since I used chess as a daily excercise for my brain, for fun.

Thanks to the Snoop´s tourney of corr i played my first really slow games where i could examine all possibilities of a move..the other extreme. At first I started playing them as a g/10 game and making silly moves losing lots of unaswered Queen´s, but now after 20 so slow games I really enjoy 30/15 games and feel I am a bit better player of serious chess thanks to that variety.

I agree wiith some of the opinions there that a mix of the 3 tempos can improve after all, my game.

It is also another qualyfied view for those who sometimes say that speed ches is NOT chess!

Hi Wanna

My thoughts exactly...and I'd second your acknowlegment of Snoop here...I'd like to think that Tournys such as this will really improve my game...although the way I'm playing NevadaMaster at the moment, I'm not too sure!!!

Here is my opinion and I am an "old salt", or soon getting to be,,,

obviously my chess love is corr, that is A number 1.

My play OTB is OK, but believe it or not, rating for rating, I have found myself in here to be better in speed. Not that I really care because to me,
speed chess is candy for the idle mind;
Chess is a monumental battle;
Corr is the mother of all holy wars;

Long live correspondence chess!

'Zen's 'feedback'; Re. speed chess being, 'candy, for the idle mind'; For the most part, it Is; UNless, you can make a 'living' of sorts.. at it, in a major city; Or better yet; Were 'you' one of the 16 invitees to the Nov. 7th-8th, "World Blitz Champ." in Kahzachstan; 1st prize, 68 'gees.' {I'm Really Not trying to seem like a 'contrarian'!}

As for Corr. Chess, being, 'so exalted'; What about, virtual 'A.I.' 'GMs' like "Shredder" and "Rybka"; Expert {if, also cheating}, 'human help'; Plus, the More True, than Not, axiom: "There is No honor, among men"! {women Too!}....

What I do not enjoy in this corr kind of "crusade" is the waiting game...2 or 3 moves a day is a good pace for me, one is good but less than that is kind of boring if you only have only 2 games to go...isn´t that so DUAL SPACE!??.......just kidding !take all the time you need buddy.

I'm sure somewhere along the way I ended up playing against a computer in corr. that's life!

What I look for is a like-minded opponent that wants to play a HUMAN

besides, blitz chess programs now are unbeatable.

I seem to have a slight concentration problem when it comes to loooooooooooong time frame games. I get bored, I mean reallllllly bored. I can hold it together for a g/5 with no problem but any longer is very tedious.

I just accepted a corr game with wanna and my classic first move was 1. v9.

I do hope he comes back with something I can work with, like RESIGN !!!!!

I will try to get some revenge this time.

Now I have this urge to have lots of corr games going on...and having just two is...hmmm...feels different!

I challenged those guys that left me "blood in the eye"...hehehehehe.

Raptor is anything but catatonic* in corr...quite fun to have 5 or 6 moves per day!...atta boy!
