Gee Raptor, a pro-life cartoon. Seems like you wouldn't fit that mold.

Though I must admit that I am NOT pro-life.

However...

I am not pro-choice either.

Actually, I think the government should keep out of moral decisions altogether.

I don't smoke, but I'm not for the government telling us where we can or cannot smoke.

I DO talk on my cell phone while driving, though the government shouldn't be dealing in this area either.

I don't drink and drive, though having the government regulate this area has led to extensive trouble.

Simply put, keep the government out of morality and this land will be a better place to live.

People do have brains, the problem is they aren't expected to use them in today's culture.

Re: Vote early ! Vote Often !

what does being a fundie have to do with the secular part of your life?

clergy people do vote, you know!

I'm not saying you should become an activist but surely you have some opinion on what your politicians do with your/our money just as you have an opinion on what your doctor should do to treat you.

politics/religion, two differnt things.

Politics and religion are indeed two different things even though you find many people rallying behind the church & state combination option today.

Non-the-less, one's religious points of view, be they...
* Atheism
* Buddhism
* Christian
* Catholic

Or what have you do indeed directly impact there political expressions to one extend or another.

can't argue it, Rap.

I kwno where I am, the archdiocese has very large holdings, land in central boston, because they do not have to pay taxes. Between the archdicese and all the colleges, universities and hospitals, it presents a HUGE loss in land tax revenue to the city.

I would quite agree Rap, minus the part of acquiring back from previous errors that we as a country had already made. I can't think of many laws that become retroactive when passed. They look to bettering the future just as we ourselves should.

Re: Vote early ! Vote Often !

I think the rationale to it all was people felt that taxing a church was in interference with "freedom of religion", which the settlers were particularly protective of, as that is why many came here - to escape religious prosecution and to practice whichever religion they wished.

but when you think about it,, taxing a persons home is interfering with one's right to exist..... no?

And yes, hundreds of people every day (maybe thousands) lose their homes because they cannot pay taxes on the house and teh big bad tax man comes and takes it away.

happens every day.
very sad.

I thought it was more the bad times, unemployment and that people can't handle the terms on the loans any longer.

How painful is the U.S. property tax, how much do you pay SnoopDog176?

In Sweden the upper limit (ceiling) is 900 USD and there is no tax on forest/agriculture land... So I pay about 700 USD.

Re: Vote early ! Vote Often !

Windmill,
I am sure that more people now are being forclosed for other reasons, but,, I know people that inherited the house they live in and find it hard to make the tax payments.

In my area, taxes are usually around US$3,000 per year. $250 per month. that is a lot of money for some people. and you might say that if they an afford a house they an afford the tax on it... but that is not always true!

the bottom line is, for those folks,, there is no other lean on the home,, they have clear title. if they do not pay the taxes, kiss the house goodbye.

it is unusual, yes, but it happens.

Hej

Tax rate is 1% . Chump change unless you have a $10 million Property. I don't, but if i did i might cut back on the caviar to make ends meet.
Windmill, great to see here with us Yahoo's. Your sensible and highly educated view point is needed and greatly appreciated by some of us uneducated Americans.

Re: Vote early ! Vote Often !

1%...? wow, where are you, DMan?

In Massachusetts, about 1980 or so,,, they passed "Proposition 2 1/2" - which capped the amount of tax on property at 2 1/2 % of market worth per year.

probably the average home where I am is about $300K, or WAS before the crash. some $7,500 per year, or $625 per month. that is at the full 2.5%.

Windmill, sorry! I was off with my figure. Most cities and towns go as far as they can, 2.5%. that is higher than what some folks pay for their mortgage, for gawd's sake.
