Though I don't doubt that there is Some climate related truth, in which you state, "grevillea"; 'imho' one has to differentiate the area{s} of your big continent, that you're referring to; as it relates to weather & climate patterns, which you conveniently didn't!
 
Certainly, for starters, the 25? million, people who live in Australia, would Not have thought to continue to live there, if it were as weather-related, uninviting, as you make it sound!; besides, what's the average human life-span, compared to 'climate patterns,' {rhetorical}, as if, Not encouraging, the.. 'I'll {gladly} take my chances' attitude!
 
In a 'nutshell' "grevillea," 'me thinks' that you & God, view each other, Almost alike; in your description reference of, 'mindless, clueless, and aimless,' but Not, I dare say, 'hopeless'!
