Reply | 23 Oct 2008, 17:38:58   Re: 2008 MLB Baseball Playoffs,,, Who's In It.... Who Wins It So then there were the old basbeball mates and friends for life,,, Sal the pitcher and Mike the catcher. Mike was in the hospital dying, and Sal, his buddy, went to visit him - his last visit before Mike would pass. At one point Sal said, "Mike,, please do me a favor... when you get to heaven, try to get word to me if baseball is in heaven". Mike just paused and said, "Sal, I'll see what I can do". Mike passed on, and within a few days, Sal was suddenly captured by a "vision". And sure enough, he saw and heard his lifelong buddy, Mike the catcher. "Sal,, there is good news,,, and there is bad news. First, the good news,,, there IS basbeball in heaven". Sal was estatic! "That's GREAT news, Mike! but tell me, what is this bad news...?" After a short pause, "The bad news is, Sal, you're scheduled to pitch on Friday" |

Who Wins It after phase 1,,, the series is tied, one game apiece (1-1) phase 2, the series now shifts to philadelphia for three games. I am liking Philly so far,, they have a good man on the mound in Lidge. bullpen maybe the difference here. and HEY! nobody like my joke...? |

Who Wins It Tonight, Monday,, the series continues in game 2 of 3 in philadelphia. the series stands at 3-1 philly with a chance for Phily to end it tonight at home. Personally I am hoping for a 7-game set, "but it is what it is". If philly does win tonight, expect the city of philadelphia to be blown up! |

Phillies win! the phils take the rain/snow delayed game 5 of the world series and win, four games to one. and the philly raction...? heehehehehhee "celebrating the championship by knocking down traffic signals, spraying beer and shooting off fireworks." "Windows were smashed at a bank and luggage store in the downtown shopping district. At least two cars were overturned, the windows of a TV van were smashed, dozens of huge streetside planters were flipped over and some bus shelters were damaged or destroyed." .... . and other such fan niceties. cbs Nonetheless, CONGRATULATIONS ot the world series champions, Philadelphia Phillies! |

Who Wins It Without Lidge Phillies don't even make the playoffs. He was for this season by far their MVP.They signed him to a 3 year extension midway thru the season. Pat Gillick did a great job as GM.Werth,JC Romero,Lidge,Durbin,Victorino,Feliz,Dobbs,Jenkins,Stairs,Eyre,Blanton,Moyer were all brought in here by Gillick to add pieces to the Phillies homegrowncore of Hamels,Utley,Howard,Myers,Rollins and Burrell. Gillick has said he is retiring and apparently Ruben Amaro Jr is going to replace him.Amaro is apparently smart (Stanford grad) but he has big shoes to fill.Next few years are going to be very interesting ones for Phillies baseball |

Reply | 2 Nov 2008, 00:44:01   Re: 2008 MLB Baseball Playoffs,,, Who's In It.... Who Wins It One one last note to this final episode to the 2008 baseball season, baseball is my true love, the sport I grew up playing and understanding the best. And I know things change, but I read that this was the lowest rated world series EVER. That does not have so much to do with the teams invovled, one being a neophite newbie team,, but rather, baseball has long since been the apple in everybody's eye - sportswise in America. And some of that loss of fanship has to do with HOW they run the game, IMO. I have to say I was really troubled with the game 5 delay,,, being picked up the next night at yet ANOTHER late time, and being delayed because of SNOW. Remember when ALL world series games were played in the DAYTIME? Kids would sneak their tiny two-transistor radios to school with them to try to sneak a listen to the game. all the kids would be PUMPED. The world series,, being played late at night, and delayed because of snow, for gawd's sake. Why not just add another layer of playoff games to make even more money, and play into november, then...???? sure ain't how they ran baseball when I was a yung'in |
