Reply | 19 Aug 2008, 10:22:51   G/10 Time-Controls {& faster} are Also Less Conducive To 'Drawn' Games{!} To my mind, there are 2 basic approaches to playing chess, in a "time-control" sense; the intuitive-based, as seen in the faster 't/c's, [ideally, no slower than "game-in-10" {minutes}], and where preparation & pattern recognition, literally count for more; in terms of ones' own ability to exploit an advantage, {with the hated "draws" being less likely}; and the "been-there, done-that" Much slower paced games; where about the only facet of ones' game, that assumes greater importance, is ones' own physical stamina; so much so, in fact, that a player's physical-stamina for prolonged games, {if they're to be played in one 'session'}, seems in conflict with chess' reputation, as primarily being a 'mental' sport! Perhaps it's one of the lesser manifestions of living in a world 'gone bonkers'; but in a more sane world, {'imho'}, games played 'face-to-face'/'over-the-board,' at the highest championship & official tourney levels, would've gotten rid of any time-control, that are slower than one-hour per game/per player, Years ago!; thereby guaranteeing, that No one game of chess, played officially, would last.. longer than 2 hours! Does it make sense?!, You Know it Does!; Is it likely to be implemented, let's say, in the next 10 years?!; going back, to my 'world-gone-bonkers' theme; it's No more likely to happen in 10 years, {ie. No more than two hours per game, for both players}, than in 10 years.. I suspect, we'll Still have at Least, several 'thou' troops, {maybe more}, in Iraq! .. |
