Aussie artistic community stands up to the scourge of conservatism.
It's getting harder to just be yourself in Australia. Religious groups, commercial media and the pollies have formed an alliance to inflict conformity and high moral standards throughout the land. Taking photos of your own children in public can have you marked as a paedophile and sex offender. Wine retailers who sell plonk at $2 a bottle have to endure a barrage of criticism from do gooders on the evil of drinking. A young girl, longing to be a model, was subject to appalling treatment by the media, because they believed she was too young to be doing catwalk modeling. The presenter of The Footy Show, a TV show, which is the last bastion and refuge for Aussie blokes who enjoy witty , intelligent conversation laced with blue jokes , innuendo, sarcasm and good natured fun, was taken off air and sent away for counselling. The list goes on and on, and I'm sick of it. Next week, the Pope arrives in Sydney, and wouldn't you know ; it is now a crime to insult or cause offence to Catholics during his visit. A $5,000 fine no less. Just standing next to Catholic can make you feel guilty, so I suspect that there will be a lot of people reaching for their wallet. Incidently, the Pope is in Sydney for an event that has been organised by a group of geriatric old fossils, and it is called ..World youth day ! However, it is disgraceful that you can not say..*ondom, or *bortion within 100 miles of a Catholic without the risk of a policeman absailing out of the nearest tree to slap you with a 5 grand fine. In fact, the police are not needed, as citizens are granted the powers to do the arresting. What is happening.By the way...what do you think is one of the main drawcards for world youth day?...is it a line up of sexy Italian dancing girls or is it the body of a man who died 83 years ago? A no brainer. So, back to the thread, and a photographer / artist called Bill Henson puts on an exhibition of his work in a gallery. He is well respected in the art world. For these works, the artist took photos of children,[ young teenagers] in the studio with their parents' consent. On opening night, the police arrived, closed it down , seized the photos and arrested Bill Henson for child porn. There was outrage from the media, our prime minister, and the church towards the artist. In my opinion the photos were clearly art and in no way pornographic. But in the current climate sweeping the country, there was a real chance Bill Henson could end up in prison. Sanity prevailed eventually and the charges were dropped. There is something fundamental here which is worth fighting for; the right for artistic freedom, and the need to keep small minded people from dictating how we should live. So I was delighted that the art community took a stand with their latest magazine cover. The model on the cover is 6 years old. The photographer is her mother. They are both proud of the photo. Personally, the photo did not excite me in any way. I am just pleased that the art world is not going to surrender and die to the conservative scourge.http://www.artmonthly.org.au/

Yes we are in a historical cycle when the do gooders have the upper hand. Just keep a low profile and eventually they will be exposed for the frauds that they are.

Aren't the australian do gooders suing gordon ramsay for swearing on tv?

Suing gordon ramsay for swearing is like giving out speeding tickets at the indy 500.

Soon as the senate discovered Gordon Ramsay, they wanted it banned. I don't think the Senate will win this one, though. It is a very popular and high rating show. It is confronting at first. Being someone who hardly swears, I was a bit taken aback by the amount of coarse language. After a while you don't notice. The sun still came up in the morning. This is a typical sample...Gordon talking to the chef.."f*** me, I wouldn't serve this f***ing s*** to my f***ing dog. F***ing look at it, it's f***ing burnt, it looks F***ing disgusting, its a F***ing disgrace. Do they show it unbleeped in the US. Somehow, I don't think so.
