While both are relevant, the sourcing documentation is indeed different is it not? I say that, only to point out that using her writtings as IBIJ2 has done above has not been my own personal direction of choice, and by now this should indeed be quite obvious. Further, you can feel free to thank me for getting the largely undesired and topically unrelated postings of Hmmmm to cease since his stealth mode of choice appears to have had the pleasurable outcome of these no longer being available at least from his given handle. No worries, I don't expect any acknowlegement of this, but must admit that it is indeed a nice change. Finally, as it relates to GP13 & Hmmmmm and their combined decision to enter into stealth mode on conversations, I would consider that quite admirable of them if not for the fact that they do this simply because they lack direct sourcing information to back their positions up from the Word of God directly. I must admit though, it's a nice way of attempting to "save face". Cheers IBIJ |

Reply | 25 Jun 2008, 17:19:07 In reply to IBelieveInJesus Re: IBIJ; Lets have an understanding Do to your derogatory remark from your June 22 post about the New International Version of the Bible; I thought this artical would be of interest to you. NIV Bible Tops List by Evangelical Leaders From The Christian Post The New International Version of the Bible is by far the most preferred translation of the Scripture, according to a new survey of US evangelical leaders. More than 65% of the participating leaders named the NIV as their preferred Bible in a survey conducted by the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) in light of the NIV's 30th anniversary this year. "New Bible translations face large competition to gain a foothold in churches and homes but once established they have long staying power," commented Leith Anderson, president of the NAE, which claims to represent 30 million evangelicals. "And, the NIV has maintained popularity and influence since it was published in 1978." The survey questioned the 100 members on the NAE board of directors, which included heads of evangelical denominations with about 45,000 local churches, executives of para-church organizations, and heads of Christian colleges. In the survey, evangelical leaders were asked, “What is your preferred English Bible translation?” and were left to write in their response rather than being given a list to choose from. Nearly half (49%) of those surveyed named only the NIV as their preferred translation, while another 18% listed a second translation along with the NIV for a total of 67% selecting the NIV in the survey. Among those who chose two translations, the other version listed included the New Living Translation, The Message, the New English Bible, the New Testament in Modern English (J. B. Phillips, 1962), and the King James Version of the Bible. One denominational leader listed the NIV, the New King James Version, and the Contemporary Parallel Bible which shows multiple translations side-by-side for comparison. But among those that do not prefer the NIV Bible, there was no clear preference in translation that dominated the field. Translations that were most mentioned were The New Living Translation, the New American Standard Bible, the Revised Standard Version, the English Standard Version, and the New King James Version. There was also one response each for the Amplified Bible and Today's New International Version (TNIV). "Evangelicals agree that the Bible is the authoritative Word of God but have a long list of translations to pick from," said Anderson. "Translations come and go but the Bible lasts forever." The NIV is the most popular modern English translation of the Bible in the world. It celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2008 with more than 300 million copies in print worldwide. That guy has a way of getting in the last word, and I suck right in. Just to get the last word in. Where is the first baseball game in the Bible? In the big inning, Eve stole first, Adam stole second. Cain struck out Abel, and the Prodigal Son came home. The Giants and the Angels were rained out. grandpa13 Edited on 25 Jun 2008 at 19:07:59 |

Reply | 25 Jun 2008, 19:38:00 In reply to grandpa13 Re: IBIJ; Lets have an understanding Hi GP13 Derogatory remark of NIV? What did I say? I use the NIV nearly 80% of the time and refer back to the KJV for a 2nd opinion. It is not a derogatory remark that the NIV Bible was largely translated by Catholicism. That's not derogatory , it's a fact. As for your humor in this last post, wouldn't you need to demonstrate that Abel went home before claiming that he did so? According to God He went to sleep. Genesis 4:10 The LORD said, What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. Unless, of course, you are claiming Heaven to be the ground. Otherwise, the verse would read more like... "listen your brothe stopped by my office and spilled the beans." But then if I were to say the above I'd be accused of spreading Adventist doctrine through EG White though all I did to accomplish that was to read and believe the Word of God. It's really not rocket science y'know. Cheers IBIJ |
