stupid question ?
why does 2 x 0 = 0 ?, if i have 2 of "something" and i wish to multiply it, why do i have less than i started with ?

doesnt this contradict the law of conservation of energy.

why does a proton with no mass, have energy ? if e=mc^2, than e=0 x c^2, which is 0.

i know, youll say that the proper equation is e=hv, the wave property of light. but the why does god play dice

with the universe?

just asking for some divine enlightenment........

Re: stupid question ?
0*2=2*0=0 accordind to the definition. The mass of proton is not zero.

Re: stupid question ?
Multiplication is a mathematical construct. You can't think of it in terms of having "something" and then having it disappear. You are technically right, you can't take 2 of something and make it disappear like that. Those analogies work great for teaching the concepts but that doesn't make them the best way to think about it deeply.

For instance, if you have two rocks, how would you "multiply" them. You could cut them in half and say that you multiplied them by two, but all you really have is 4 half rocks. You could add two more rocks, but then you are adding more rocks, not dealing with only the original two. If you had two bunnies, they could have babies, and then you have multiplied the number of bunnies (or added to them) but you still have different bunnies than you started with.

hf=mc^2
m=hf/c^2

Re: stupid question ?
Here is a better way to describe it.

If I invest $100 at Zero percent interest, how much interest will I get after 10 years?

$100 X 0 = 0

Re: stupid question ?
And with the service penalties for only having $100 in the account your left with $1.95! Not even enough for a gallon of gas.

Re: stupid question ?
i knew you meant photon, bud, and there's definitely something else on your mind, because we can supply the high-powered physics. how's it going?
