George W. Bush, the great decider
Back in 1993, Major League Baseball decided to implement a wild card system for its baseball playoffs. The consensus was that this would be great for baseball and in fact the baseball owners voted 27-1 to approve it.

So who was the lone, dissenting vote?

George W. Bush, then part owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team. And what did George have to say about his vote at the time?

"I made my arguments and went down in flames. History will prove me right."

In the ensuing years, this wild card system has proven to be spectacularly successful by any measure.

Folks, you can't make this stuff up.
