Reply | 26 Aug 2007, 10:36:20   Trucker Asks Drivers for a Little Love {dateline: Port Huron, Michigan/ USA} Wales Township over-the-road driver: "Just so people know: Most truck drivers who work for companies do not make money unless we are moving, so we really do not like sitting. We have a saying: 'If the wheels aren't turning, we aren't earning.' So, sitting at a bridge or traffic jam doesn't help us a bit. Another thing: In most accidents, the trucker is blamed - even if the car cut in front or dropped something, stopped short or swerved into our lane. And don't forget the proverbial car merging onto the highway and expects the truck already there to move to the left so the car can merge. Some states allow us to travel only at 55 mph; others 65 mph and others 75. The key word, however, is 'merge.' That means you match speed. You don't expect a truck to adjust to you. Just remember: We are 80,000 pounds, and we need room to stop and room to get going. The theory most people have - 'big truck- big brakes,' isn't true. I admit some truckers push the laws, but there are others who don't. So next time you wave at a truck driver, use all your fingers. We have feelings, too."
