Other than that {fully} legitimate complaint; Did you 'redeem' {make use of}, your time, wisely?!.{'bk'} ..{I wouldn't have 'waited' more than 3 minutes @ most!; Even given, the relative unpopularity, of: 'g/30'} Redeeming the Time .. Time is one of the most precious commodities we possess as people. No matter how rich or poor we are, we all have the same amount of time in any given day. Not knowing how to use your time wisely can have very devastating effects. A student who uses all his or her time lingering about is bound to fail the exams. A worker prone to arriving late to the office late and making a habit of taking long lunch breaks (interspersed with regular trips to the toilet) will hardly get any work done. In like manner a Christian who uses all the time gazing at the world will have no roots in Christ. Indeed the Bible admonishes us Ephesians 5:15-16 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (NKJV) 1.What does it mean to redeem the time ? Simply put, this means taking back your time from Satan, the world and sin. A life spent in sin is a wasted life and lost time. What we do now determines how and where we spend eternity. Using your time wisely will not only reap satisfaction on earth, but also rewards and eternal life with God. You have to make a conscious effort to use your time properly. Even now many of us can still look back regretfully at some of the things we have wasted our time on. I have got good news for you - there is still a chance for you to redeem your time. 2. How do you redeem the time? You redeem the time by getting your priorities right and allocating quality time to the things that matter. Firstly, learn what the priorities in life are. I assume that you already know the love of God and have received the lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviour. 1. Your first priority should be to Jesus 2. Your second priority should be to your family 3. Your third priority should be to others a. Your first priority should be to Jesus Allocate time to spend with Jesus every day. Time not given to God will only be stolen by satan. You lose a lot by denying yourself regular fellowship. There are many ways even the busiest of us could get more time to read the Bible. So many of us spend precious time day dreaming in the train, tube or bus {especially in the mornings} when we could use these opportunities to read our Bibles or other useful material. I have personally made it a habit to listen to good Bible teaching audio tapes while driving. Many parents spend time taking care of the children and find themselves exhausted at the end of the day. Again, reading the Bible to your children and praying with them {or for them, depending on their age} will help both them and you have some fellowship with God. You will notice that the children will grow to love these "bed time readings" and eventually their desire to keep hearing them will help in keeping your fellowship with God alive. Several of us also have to walk a few minutes before we get to our working place each morning. You could use this time to pray. b. Your second priority should be to your family By family I mean both the family of God and your natural family. Many Christians can skip coming to church for the sake of shopping. Church should be a place of encouragement, strength and comfort. Many of us are blessed when we do come to church and that's why satan tries so hard to keep us away from it. The Bible strongly admonishes us to keep the fellowship of the saints Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as [is] the manner of some, but exhorting [one another,] and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (NKJV) The time we spend with our natural families is also important. Learn to talk with your husband, wife, children e.t.c and also listen. When we are at work we work and when at home we should be at home. Make time for your family life. A short time spent together, listening and caring is much more useful than loads of time being in the same house but not listening or talking together. c. Your third priority should be to others This involves your work and caring for others. On the average we spend more time at work than we do at home. The more reason why you should not let your work (or in some cases your hobby) take over your home. Remember, work to live, not live to work. Be good at your work. Do it diligently but do not get addicted to it. Excel in your work but do not let it excel over you. When we spend time talking to God He will give us the wisdom to go about our work wisely and properly. Don't leave God in church on Sunday. Let Him go with you during the week. Allow him to lead you and guide you. 3. Worry - the enemy of our time Some of us spend so much time worrying about tomorrow that we forget to enjoy now. Worry causes you to live in an uncertain future and robs you of using your time wisely today. Worry is a symptom of our lack of trust in God. Not many of us go to work worrying if we will get paid at the end of the month (or week), yet somehow we go about doubting God's ability to meet our needs. This results in us not having any faith and without faith we cannot receive from God (Heb 11:1) Jesus had a few things to say about worrying Matthew 6:26-34 "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 "and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 "Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, {will He} not much more [clothe] you, O you of little faith? 31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day [is] its own trouble. {'NKJV'} Finally Learn to get your priorities right. - Spend time in those things which are needful - Do not neglect coming to church - Quit worrying or worrying may cause you to quit. - Worry decrease the quality of your life. * Remember some tips for maximising your time are: * Use time in the train, tube or bus to read the Bible * Spend time reading the Bible to your children as you put them to bed * Listen to good Bible teaching audio tapes as you drive in the car * Begin to pray together as a family * Spend time praying as you walk to work * Spend time praying as you do the ironing and other house duties * As much as possible avoid missing church on Sunday ..{'OOPS'! 'bk'} * Quit worrying about tomorrow * Use your time wisely. {from, having 'googled': redeeming time} |
