Reply | 14 Nov 2007, 04:28:09   Would an Annual "Chess-960" Prize Make Sense? To, Admin. Brian, Perhaps you're more familiar than I, in how susceptible "Chess-960" is to cheating by commercially available software..and/or, a computer. ..Depending on how adept the non-human programs are, at '960'..my latest suggestion of awarding an annual one or two-year, "Caissa's Web" membership to the highest rated '960' human player {and current member} either does, or does not make sense{?!}.. since regretably, the 'honor- system' of not cheating in most online games, is, 'imho'.. unenforceable; computer-move "tracking"-systems, aside. P.s. The fact that I beat "Rasputin" {rated 1900, plus} as 'black'.. in a mere 22 moves earlier tonight {under another 'handle'}, when 'white' took what turned out to be a 'poisoned' g-pawn, made me think that either you purchased an inferior "Chess-960" program, or perhaps the skill-level amongst all programs at that chess-variant, is in an early.. partially mistake-prone phase{!?} |

"ectopia": Why do you ask? ..Was it because I unintentionally somehow 'got-your-goat'?! ..Incidentally, though my reasons for being here roughly balance between liking to play online-chess, and bringing forth various views {including my own} on the 'BBs'; something 'tells me' that you asked that question as a way of deflecting some unwanted {by you} attention to your own last reply, which at least arguably.. made You look like you weren't 'paying all-that-much-attention', both to the question itself, plus, whom it was addressed to. ..Try Not to be offended, since No {personal} offence was intended! |

The Caissa computer players are configured to be relatively easy to beat, we might change this in the future. I think Rasputin is even weaker than AgentSmith, so you might try playing a Chess960 against AgentSmith instead. Since it is generally agreed that the best chess computers can now beat a human consistently, some might see Chess960 as a way to add more of a human element, as the computers do not have the luxury of an opening book in Chess960. If a computer is to make a mistake it would probably be in the opening and Chess960 helps the human side in that respect.
