No sarcasm intended, but there isn't anyone around to play a game with right now. Similar to the beta phase, it's hard to do much when there's no one to interact with.

Reply | 9 Jun 2007, 06:40:34   Re: Future upgrades Regarding the Acute Dearth of Opponents: As a stopgap measure, {until, if and when appreciably more players log-on to these two Caissa sites} my semi-serious suggestion is to re-program "Caissa," "Rasputin," and "AgentBrian" Only as it regards what handles they play under, besides the respective handles that they already have! Be sure to turn off their "chat-functions" {which would be beyond their capability} unlike their ability to play a fairly decent game of chess, including possibly, even Chess-960! Let your three automated computer chess-servers have most of the appearances of being full-fledged Human players {minus, their aforementioned Non-chat ability} including, at some fu- ture point, their not-yet-realized ability to actively solicit for both "live" and correspondence-chess opponents. Keep in mind that under this proposal, "Caissa," "Rasputin" and "AgentBrian" would still be available to play under their present "non-covert" handles; but simultaneously, I propose that to give the impression that Caissa's Web is a Much More popular place to play, than it presently is, your three auto- mated chess-playing servers would also play under at least six extra handles collectively {two additional handles, per auto- mated server} without ever revealing their true cyber origins! After all, we already see this phenomena in a slightly different form, with the handful {or perhaps more} of Caissa members whom, if their consistently inflated and stratospheric-ratings are any indication, already would sooner have some "skilled" chess 'software' do All their thinking for them! Keep in mind that this both a stopgap measure {until this site gets more "real people" to play chess here}.. and could also be periodically introduced whenever there's a relatively low num- ber of online players, for reasons of the time-of-day, people working, and all other diversions. Just a thought, if not a whole- heartedly serious one! |

Obviously we encourage those members who are logging on to the new site regularly to play as many live and corr games as possible. This helps in creating activity on the new site as well as finding possible bugs in the new system.

Reply | 9 Jun 2007, 22:33:26   Re: Future upgrades I 'beg' to disagree with pazzuzu{sp?}..I feel that if these proposed chess-playing-servers were to go into effect at some future point, that it's IMPORTANT that their annonymity be pre- served{!}..which would be at best, problematical, if any "dis- abling option" were enacted. Anotherwords, no member except the Caissa administrators, who should be sworn to secrecy Re. these proposed additional automated/game-soliciting computers, would know, under this plan. As things stand now, if I happen to know let's say, that there are six or fewer human beings who are engaged in playing live games, if I were the seventh "odd-man-out" player waiting for a hoped for pairing, personally, I would rather Not be certain if my opponent was a Caissa's Web sponsored computer {and I'm Not referring to the already known three, Caissa computer handles}. I suspect that I'm not alone in feeling this way, but especially at those times of the day {or night} when this site has zero-to-3 live-games in progress, aside from having to fight the feeling that I'm 'sticking-around' in a place that has been judged to be "UNCOOL," by all the players who are Not logged-on, playing live games, and are obviously doing something else; the thought of myself opting to play a computer at that particular point-in -time, strikes me as being one of the more egregious forms of "mental-masturbation"! ..Yet, allowing me {or anyone} to imagine that I Might be playing a real person {albeit, one who doesn't care to "chat-live"} and that Sinking-Feeling of: "What the Hell am I Doing Here?!" .. no longer takes effect{!}..at least not, for the most part! { : |
